Case Study: Implantable Neurostimulator

Disease Application: Spinal Cord Injury

Client: Cyberkinetics™

Background
Cyberkinetics' Andara™ Oscillating Field Stimulator (OFS™) Device technology platform is being developed to regenerate nerve tissue to restore sensory and motor function loss due to spinal cord injuries, nervous system injuries and other diseases and conditions.

Minnetronix was chosen to redesign and develop the Andara OFS based on academic research, because of our experience with implantable devices and ability to lead complex product development projects. Minnetronix and its partners redesigned the mechanical packaging, therapy leads and electronics to meet the requirements for a human implantable device.

What Minnetronix Did

  • Project management and systems engineering
  • Embedded electronics design
  • Oversight of mechanical design for implantable application
  • Design verification testing
  • Design transfer and sustaining engineering

Technology Applications

  • Fail-safe electronics
  • Implantable device communications
  • Design for low power consumption
  • Implantable lithium (SVO) batteries
  • Implantable device enclosure (with Texcel)
  • Design for electrical safety and EMC
  • Implantable lead development (with Evergreen Medical)
